Extreme weather, unprecedented heatwaves, floods, or windstorms, rising living costs, particularly food prices, water scarcity, and worsening air pollution all remind us that our environment’s resilience is not infinite. According to science, these effects are primarily driven by human-induced carbon dioxide emissions. Yet we are not powerless: change begins where decisions are made – at both the individual and corporate level. The environmental program is based exclusively on domestic, certified, and well-functioning climate protection projects that continuously and reliably deliver emission reductions. Between **6 September 2024 and 31 December 2024**, **1,955 carbon credits** were generated based on **35% of the green energy produced by the Szihalom solar power plant**, which were acquired by **MITIGIA CARBON Zrt.** to underpin the Blue Elephant Certificates. Participation allows individuals — and even companies for their employees — to **offset their residual carbon footprint** in a simple, transparent, and credible way using verified carbon credits. The issuance of the certificate is audited by independent experts, operates according to international standards, and meets the transparency requirements of the voluntary carbon market. By purchasing the Blue Elephant Certificate, we contribute to the realization of these green projects and the associated awareness-raising campaign, generating a **positive environmental impact equivalent to 5 tonnes of CO₂e**, meaning it is not merely a symbolic gesture but represents genuine environmental performance — exactly the weight of an elephant. Certificate holders not only fully **offset** their annual **residual carbon footprint** but also directly support the growth of the green economy and the adoption of sustainable technologies in Hungary. **The Key to Change – Avoid, Reduce, Offset** Real climate protection starts with conscious decisions in everyday life. **MITIGIA CARBON Zrt.** recommends adhering to three simple but effective, mutually reinforcing principles, promoted through a mindset-change program accessible via the [Blue Elephant Certificate website](https://mitigia.hu) and [Facebook page](https://www.facebook.com/KekElefantTanusitvany): **Avoid – don’t do it if you can.** What we do not consume unnecessarily does not generate waste, does not require transport, and does not increase our carbon footprint. Skipping the purchase of an unnecessary new garment, forgoing a weekend flight, or avoiding beef consumption results in zero emissions. **Reduce – if necessary, do it smarter.** For what cannot be avoided, we should lower its carbon footprint with climate-conscious solutions: properly insulate our homes, choose public transport, or buy from local producers, or at least domestic food. **Offset – consciously compensate for what remains.** No matter how conscious we are, a significant portion of our carbon emissions is beyond our direct control. These include emissions related to national infrastructure services that serve us, such as electricity, gas, water, and sewage networks, or public services like healthcare, education, and public transport. The good news is that there is a solution: **offsetting**. This does not necessarily mean planting trees, but rather voluntarily contributing to reliable, verified green projects that absorb or reduce the emitted greenhouse gases.
